Governor Monday Okpebholo hasn't just been busy with state affairs; he’s been throwing some serious shade at the former Labour Party leader, Peter Obi.

Okpebholo Dismisses 2027 Rivals In a fresh interview on Channels Television's "Politics Today" (April 30, 2026), Governor Okpebholo didn't hold back.

He claimed that Peter Obi, along with Atiku Abubakar and Rotimi Amaechi, are figures who "failed Nigeria in the past".

The Governor boasted that President Tinubu has already secured victory for 2027 based on his "landmark" policies. He even questioned if Obi could even "deliver his home state" of Anambra next time around.

The "New Sheriff" Warning." This comes on the heels of a long-standing tension where Okpebholo warned Obi not to enter Edo State without security clearance.

Okpebholo famously stated, "There’s a new sheriff in town... His security will not be guaranteed" if he doesn't inform the state government of his visits

The Governor linked a previous visit by Obi (where he donated ₦15 million to a nursing school) to a "resurgence of violence" in Benin that left three people dead.

Dismissing the warning as "baseless," Obi told journalists at Christ the King College (CKC) that he receives threats daily and will not be deterred from his humanitarian work.

He advised Okpebholo to focus on investing in people rather than politicizing acts of charity, saying the Governor should be "sincerely grateful" for the support given to Edo's hospitals and schools.
