Busybody Family, the "Bail is Free" slogan is causing serious wahala!

While every police station has a big sign saying you shouldn't pay a kobo, Nigerians across the country are lamenting that the reality on the ground is a completely different market entirely!

The "Logistics" Trap: From ₦40k to ₦3 Million!

Despite official warnings, residents in the FCT and Lagos are reporting that officers still demand "settlement" before releasing suspects.

Stories abound of families forced to pay between ₦43,000 to ₦100,000 for minor offenses like "fighting with neighbors."

In high-profile cases, lawyers report that bail can cost as much as ₦3 Million, despite the Police Act 2020 clearly stating it should be free.

Officers often disguise extortion as "fuel money," "processing fees," or even money for "paper and pen" to write a statement!

The Police Defense: "Report the Bad Eggs!"

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) is insisting that the "system is clean" and the problem is with citizens who don't know their rights.

The FCT Police Command has reiterated that any officer asking for money is a fraudster.

Police Spokesperson Josephine Adeh revealed that an officer was recently disciplined after a victim provided evidence of a bank transfer for bail!

CSP Benjamin Hundeyin has urged Lagosians to use the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) instead of paying "kobo" to officers.

Busybody Tip: How to Protect Yourself

If you or your person gets "picked up," here is the "sense" you need:

Ask for the DPO: If a junior officer asks for money, politely ask to speak with the Divisional Police Officer.

Gather Evidence: If you must pay to secure freedom, try to get a bank transfer record or the officer's name/tag number.

Use the Hotlines: Report extortion immediately to the CRU at 08107314192 (FCT) or your local command.

Have you ever been told "Bail is free" while the officer is pointing at a POS machine?

Do you think the police will EVER stop collecting bail money until their salaries are increased?

Don’t let them "obtain" you! Share this update to your groups and follow BusybodyTv for more street-smart news!
